With World Book Day to be marked on April 23, The Legal Daily, a Beijing-based newspaper, recently produced a list of titles recommended by the country's top leaders.

Misery and Glory

(Writers Publishing House, By Jin Yinan) President Xi Jinping has recommended the book to several provincial leaders during conversations with them. The book, written by General Jin Yinan, who is also a professor of National Defense University, narrates how the Communist Party led the country out of hardships in the 20th century. It is considered a vivid account of the Party's history.
