Culture: Beijing's hutong revived in watercolor

Lu Yan, a contract photographer with Xinhua News Agency, has preserved the original flavor of Beijing's traditional alleys, also known as hutong, in his watercolor paintings. Lu, who graduated from Tsinghua University three decades ago, studied under Lou Shibai, a disciple of master painter Qi Baishi. As a native Beijinger who grew up in the winding alleys, Lu has documented the hutong through his camera and painted them on canvas.
