9 arrested in fake formula scandal

Authorities have arrested nine people in a recent milk powder scandal that involved the production and selling of fake baby formula under the brands Similac and Beingmate. China's food safety commission under the State Council said at a news conference on Saturday that Shanghai police had transferred six of the suspects to judicial organs for prosecution and were tracking down another suspect. After receiving reports in September, the Shanghai police arrested nine suspects and seized about 1,000 cans of milk powder, more than 20,000 empty cans and 65,000 fake Similac labels by Jan 7.
