Item from April 11, 1998, in China Daily: A worker fills a vehicle with liquefied petroleum gas at Beijing's first LPG station, with has recently open to customers with LPG conversion in their cars. Beijing plans to install 50 such stations in the near future. LPG is a much cleaner fuel than regular petrol.

Beijing plans to build thousands of charging stations this year to promote the use of electric vehicles, amid the city's efforts to curb air pollution, according to Beijing Electric Power Co.

More than 10 major charging facilities are set to roll out in expressway service stations, with nearly 6,000 smaller units in urban areas, the company said. The charging facilities will feature sockets to charge multiple vehicles simultaneously.
