Before landing at Kyaukphyu Airport in western Myanmar, planes fly over a large area of untended farmland. During the dry season, the people of this drought-ridden area wait for rain to replenish its arid surface.
Like its landscape, Myanmar's economy is awaiting transformation. The birth of the NLD-led government, which was sworn in on Wednesday in the capital Naypyitaw has rekindled the public's hopes of reviving the economy.
Chinese investors, with their counterparts from other countries, are preparing for the new opportunities that will emerge when the Southeast Asian country's economy starts to grow.
