80% in survey support ban on 'cruel' extraction of bear bile

By Cao Yin | China Daily | Updated: 2016-03-30 08:20

More than 80 percent of people surveyed by an animal protection organization think the bear bile extraction industry should be banned in China.

The survey, carried out in February and March by the AITA Foundation for Animal Protection - also known as the Ta Foundation - and the consultancy Horizonkey, queried 1,892 people in 10 cities across China.

In the survey, 97.4 percent said extracting bile - a digestive fluid produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder - from captive bears was "very cruel".
