Ministry opposes EU protectionism
The Ministry of Commerce expressed concern on Monday over the European Commission's plans to step up measures on imports of Chinese steel products, saying it will not solve the problems facing the global steel industry but will affect the international trade order. The issue of the steel sector requires joint efforts and action from countries across the globe and the implementation of trade protectionism will not solve the problem fundamentally, it said. China, which has always been subject to trade protectionism, is opposed to the use of trade remedy measures and advocates solving problems through talks and negotiation to better maintain a stable and just trade environment, the ministry statement said.
