U Htin Kyaw from Myanmar's ruling National League for Democracy, led by Aung San Suu Kyi, won the presidential election on Tuesday through a secret ballot, thus becoming the country's new president for the next five-year term.

China on Tuesday congratulated Myanmar on its election. China looks forward to strengthening cooperation with Myanmar's new government," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said.
