Experts call for sustainable post-Olympics development for skiing sector

By Sun Xiaochen | China Daily | Updated: 2016-03-14 08:05

As the Chinese skiing industry gains momentum ahead of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, observers have called for a top-down design to integrate relevant businesses and provide sustainable post-Olympic development.

Since July, when Beijing and co-host Zhangjiakou in Hebei province won the rights to stage the 2022 Games, an investment boom in the winter recreation sector has resulted in the construction of 108 new ski resorts in North China, according to the 2015 China Report on the Ski Resort Industry, released at the Asia Pacific Snow Conference last month.

The report said 568 ski resorts were operating in 25 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions last year, attracting 12.5 million visitors (including repeat visitors), a rise of 21 percent from 2014.
