This Day, That Year
Item from March 9, 1987, in China Daily: A 3,000-year-old wine unearthed from a Shang Dynasty tomb in Luoshan county, Henan province, sparked great interest at a recent symposium on China's viticulture and a related exhibition held in the southern coastal city of Shenzhen. The liquid, older than the ancient Roman wine found in a shipwreck in the Mediterranean, may be the world's oldest wine.
Archaeological research in the country continues to make remarkable strides in unveiling the life of Chinese people in ancient times.
One of the latest major discoveries is the Marquis Haihun tomb in Jiangxi province. The find includes more than 10,000 cultural relics, such as lacquerware, bronze and jade artifacts, at the 10,000-square-meter excavation site. The archaeological project began in 2011.
