China Daily | Updated: 2016-02-29 08:07

Item from Feb 29, 1984, in China Daily: More milk to flow ... Beijing officials hope local farmers will follow the example set by this young woman and her family in Gongji town, Anhui province. The family began raising dairy cattle last year and right now one of their nine cows is giving an average of 15 kilograms of milk a day.

Dairy consumption in China has risen steadily over the past decade, thanks to a growing middle class and government measures to introduce it in schools.

Many Chinese dairy companies, including Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group Co and infant formula maker Yashili, are boosting their overseas investments to raise the competitiveness of high-quality milk at home and abroad.
