Watchdog urges Internet responsibility

By China Daily | China Daily | Updated: 2016-02-27 07:57

Every netizen should take responsibility for what they publish on the Internet to improve the credibility of cyberspace, China's Internet watchdog said after another hot story that went viral over the Lunar New Year turned out to be fabricated.

On Feb 14, a reporter with Caijing, a business magazine, posted a story on the magazine's WeChat account in which he lamented the moral deterioration that he found in his hometown, a small village in Northeast China, when he went back during the holiday.

The story was quickly forwarded on WeChat, an instant messaging tool, but Xinhua News Agency found that the contents, including the time, figures and the places, were made up by the reporter.
