Item from Feb 24, 1992, in China Daily: Garden workers plant some 400 pines, each of which stands 6 meters to 7 meters tall, at Beijing's famous Summer Palace. The greening project is expected to be completed before the peak sightseeing season.

After decades of ecological and environmental protection measures, the forest coverage rate in Beijing is expected to hit an impressive 42 percent this year.

Trees will also be planted in an area of more than 10,000 hectares this year, environmental authorities said.
