US to dispatch F-22 stealth fighters to ROK

The United States will dispatch nuclear-capable F-22 fighter jets to the Republic of Korea in an apparent show of force to militarily pressure the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Yonhap news agency reported on Tuesday.

Four F-22 stealth fighters, one of the US strategic assets thought to be sent to show joint defense readiness between Seoul and Washington, were scheduled to make a sortie on Wednesday to the Korean Peninsula.

The F-22 fighter is capable of escaping radar detection and is able to carry nuclear missiles and bombs. Its has a maximum operational range of 2,177 kilometers.
