Rukhsana Parveen and Sofia Jawed became the first Pakistani women to bag international medals in boxing at the 2016 South Asian Games in Shillong.

The competition marked the first time Pakistan has sent a boxing team to an international event.

The 23-year-old Parveen dropped her 60kg semifinal bout 10-9 to a Sri Lankan opponent at the Games, which wrapped up on Monday, while Jawed also claimed bronze after losing 10-9 to India's Pooja Rani in the 75kg semifinal.
