Item from Feb 16, 1984, in China Daily: Let there be lanterns ... A busy time as peasants from Dingbian county, Shaanxi province, prepare a homemade lantern for Lantern Festival, which falls today.

The festival, widely celebrated throughout the country, is set on the 15th day of the first month under the traditional Chinese calendar.

Lantern Festival, which marks the end of Chinese New Year celebrations, falls on Feb 22 this year.
