BEIJING

HK gets security support after riot

The central government firmly supports the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government and the police in safeguarding social security and punishing illegal and criminal activities in accordance with the law, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday. Hong Lei made the remarks in response to a riot that broke out in Hong Kong's Mong Kok district on Tuesday. He said in a statement that the riot, "plotted mainly by a local radical separatist organization", started early on Tuesday.
