By China Daily | China Daily | Updated: 2016-02-05 08:24

A new partnership between Tencent and US sports giant ESPN is set to provide Chinese audiences more sports action customized for the local market.

Tencent, China's major online news and services provider, announced on Wednesday it has reached a multi-year agreement with ESPN to air National Basketball Association games, with additional ESPN commentary, and other sports content exclusively localized by the US company for Chinese audiences starting with this year's NBA playoffs in April.

Under the deal, Tencent's live sports coverage and digital products in China will feature exclusive bilingual (Mandarin-English) ESPN content including basketball and international soccer games with the potential to expand to other sports over the course of the agreement.
