Culture: 'Door gods' to help decorate homes

On chinadaily.com.cn

As Spring Festival nears, many Chinese families will put up fresh images of traditional "door gods" at the entrances of their homes to help drive away bad luck and welcome good fortune. The custom includes many types of the deities, with the warrior-like Qin Qiong and Yu Chigong being the most common ones. Their images are displayed especially after xiao nian festival, which usually falls on the 23rd day of the 12th month under the traditional Chinese calendar.
