Classic art cosplay keeps netizens abuzz

A series of re-enactments by school children of some the world's most famous paintings, from Munch's The Scream to Van Gogh's Self-Portrait, has became a sensation on social networking platforms.

Bewigged and costumed, using a tennis racket as a guitar, or just wearing a winsome smile, the children posed in imitation of the paintings' scenes. The ensuing photos were displayed at an art competition at a primary school in Hangzhou city, Zhejiang province. The best creations receive awards.

"Children usually compete with their drawing skills in a typical art competition, but we aimed to involve more children who may not be very accomplished at drawing," said Su Yan, vice-principal of Hangzhou Shengfulu Primary School, who initiated the competition.
