Vortex over North Pole producing higher winds than usual, expert says

The icy weather front moving southward across China is responsible for the sharp cold snap that will bring heavy snow to many regions through Tuesday, the national weather authority said on Thursday.

Residents in many southern cities who have never seen snow in winter are likely to see plenty of it after Thursday. The storms are expected to last five days.
