New vehicle emission norms from April

The vehicle emission standard upgrade will take effect starting from April 1 in 11 provinces in eastern China, according to an announcement published jointly by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Environmental Protection on Monday. The move is in line with the country's campaign to combat vehicle pollution. From April 1, all the vehicles including light-duty cars, light-duty diesel vehicles and heavy-duty diesel vehicles in these 11 provincial-level regions including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Hainan have to upgrade the gasoline to the standard known as "China 5". The policy will further expand to the nationwide level from Jan 1 of 2017.
