In a country as big and diverse as China, the number of Chinese dialects is more than 100 and many of them are mutually unintelligible. In an online ranking, Chinese netizens voted via their micro blogs for "China's eight most difficult dialects".
1. Wenzhou dialect
Many netizens compared the dialect to the Navajo language described in the Hollywood movie Wind talkers. It was said that several Wenzhouese were also appointed as radiomen of the Eighth Route Army in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-45) because their language was hard to understand by outsiders.
