Guangzhou-based Plateno Group unveiled its new products, services and designs for 2016 earlier this month. Eighteen out of its 22 hotel brands, including Maison Albar, H12, Xana Hotelle, Lavande and 7 Days Inn, participated in the launch event. Founded in 2013, Plateno Group has opened more than 3,000 outlets in China and is seeking to expand abroad.

The Hyatt on the Bund hotel management team is adorning its Christmas tree with stars that are available for sale, with all profits to be donated to the construction of a children's library for rural primary schools.

Representatives of Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa, and the hotel's partners sent a trove of Christmas supplies - flour, rice, oil, food, medicine and clothes - on Dec 12 to a village community in Nyalam county of Xigaze in the Tibet autonomous region. The county suffered heavily from a severe earthquake in April. After a visit to the village in November, the hotel staff learned of the county's troubles and organized a donation drive for the villagers.
