Archaeologists began the process on Tuesday of opening a significant coffin in a tomb dating to the 1st century BC in Nanchang, Jiangxi province.
Experts believe it's likely the coffin belongs to an emperor of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24).
Excavation of the tomb complex - apparently built for a person of high rank - began in 2011. It covers a 40,000-square-meter area. The main coffin chamber was opened in November.
