American internet sensation Paige Spiranac was left in tears as the harsh realities of professional golf struck her when she missed the cut in her debut appearance at the Dubai Ladies Masters on Thursday.

At the Majlis course, she followed a first-round 77 with a 79 and failed to make it to the money-making rounds in the season-ending championship of the Ladies European Tour by eight shots.

The invitation by organisers to the 22-year-old, a decent college golfer who graduated recently from San Diego University and turned pro, divided opinion.
