Internet donors boost donations
A new report shows that donors contributed 437 million yuan ($68.35 million) to charity though third-party Internet platforms last year. The figures were compiled by the China Association of Fundraising Professionals, the country's first membership platform for fundraising professionals. Four main platforms run by Alibaba Group Public Welfare Foundation, Ant Love, Tencent Foundation and gongyi.weibo.com raised 426 million yuan, accounting for 97.5 percent of the total. However, total amounts raised fell 76 million yuan compared with 2013, despite 680 million more individual donations. Mobile donation has become the main method.
