Smaller cities and towns should have their say in pollution fight

WHILE THE SEVERITY OF the smog in Beijing provoked criticism of the authorities for not issuing a red alert, the smog in other cities is no less a problem, says Yangtze Daily:

The smog that was smothering Beijing, Tianjin, and several cities in North China's Hebei province has finally disappeared thanks to strong winds recently, and residents across northern China have welcomed the return of blue sky.

Complaints about the smog were widespread on social media. Especially, the smog in Beijing was a hot topic, with people expressing their dissatisfaction with the municipal government's inability to fight corruption.
