China Daily | Updated: 2015-12-04 07:57

Item from Dec 4, 1986, in China Daily: People look for their mislaid or stolen bikes at a large bicycle "lost and found" display organized by the Beijing Public Security Bureau. More than 2,000 bikes were included in the display in western Beijing. The display started last Wednesday and will end on Dec 10.

China, known as the "Kingdom of Bicycles" just a few decades ago, is grappling with air pollution and traffic congestion in many cities amid the rapid growth of its auto industry.

Cities across the country are promoting the use of public rental bike facilities as a major environmentally friendly solution to the jams and gridlock.
