By Reuters in Chennai, India | China Daily | Updated: 2015-11-18 07:50

Floods in southern India and Sri Lanka have killed more than 70 people, officials and media reports said on Monday.

The floods inundated homes, farmland and highways, forcing authorities to shut down schools and colleges in some areas.

Triggered by incessant rain over the past seven days, the floods have submerged parts of Tamil Nadu state, including its capital, Chennai, where most of the deaths and devastation have taken place.
