Australasia's current focus on China and other strongly growing Asian economies has produced a new breed of company that specializes in identifying the best investment opportunities in either direction.

Arowana International's founder and managing director, Kevin Chin, is taking advantage of Australia and New Zealand's Asian push to power its roster of businesses.

Arowana, an investment group founded in Sydney, has grown internationally, with offices and personnel across Australia, Southeast Asia and the United States, and listed entities on both the Australian Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.

Today, the company is focusing on four areas ripe for development and investment - education, food, clean energy and funds management, as well as their technology derivatives.

"On the education front, Australia and New Zealand have been key destinations for international students from Asia, so this has been an important focus area for us for the last five years," Chin said.

"With respect to food and beverages, the global consumer trend towards healthier, reduced or sugar-free and less-processed products is gathering momentum," he added.

"Both Australia and New Zealand have fantastic reputations for food integrity based on their exacting regulatory standards, and both are hotbeds of food and beverage innovation. The China-Australia Free Trade Agreement will allow a range of Australian companies with the right Chinese partners to experience exponential growth."

"For the clean energy sector, our focus is on solar power," Chin said. "We believe solar will become the 21st century's leading source of power, following the prophetic words of Thomas Edison in 1931, when he said, 'I'd put my money on the sun and solar power'. In Australia, we are positioned to develop solar installations that will deliver cleaner and cheaper energy. Solar will be a massive investment opportunity in Australia and across Asia."

On the funds management side, Arowana has delivered a strong investment track record since its formation. Recent changes in Australia's significant investor visa program require applicants to invest at least 10 percent of the A$5 million ($3.5 million) minimum sum into a qualified venture capital fund.

Arowana is one of the only companies in its field ready with such an instrument for Asian investors seeking permanent residency status in Australia.

"Engaging with the right partners from China can make that happen faster, and we are open to collaborating to achieve win-win outcomes," he said.
