Clear accounts of untimely deaths needed
HAO ZHUANG, the head of the political and legal committee and local public security bureau in Jiaohe city, Northeast China's Jilin province, died from the injuries sustained after he fell from the sixth floor of his office building on Monday. According to his secretary who witnessed what happened, Hao Zhuang was cleaning the window when he accidentally fell. His body was cremated on Wednesday. Comments:
Like the unexpected deaths of other officials, there are many questions about this incident, such as: with his secretary present, was it necessary for the chief of the public security bureau to try and clean the windows himself? It is winter, and Jilin is in the northeastern part of the country where it is already cold and frosty, did it make sense to clean the windows in such weather? Also, if the secretary's statement about his death is true, then the official actually died on duty, and it seldom happens that officials at such a leadership level are buried in such haste.
The deaths of important government officials are never a private matter. It is the public's right to get complete information about the circumstances. Therefore, no matter what the specific cause of his death was and whether the related official was suspected of hidden secrets, all the relevant information surrounding his death should be disclosed, to give the public a complete picture of what happened.
