Ruling party says it will respect the vote as it faces massive defeat at the polls

Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, moving closer to an absolute majority in parliament on Wednesday, requested a meeting with the president and the powerful military chief to discuss national reconciliation.

Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party is headed for a massive win that will give the country a government not linked to the military for the first time in more than a half-century.
