Olive harvest has opportunities for displaced Syrians

By Xinhua in Beirut | China Daily | Updated: 2015-11-10 08:03

November marks the olive harvest season in southern Lebanon, and with over 4 million olive trees, the fields are full of activity. Harvesting olives is a seasonal profession for over 200,000 displaced Syrians who fled their war-torn country to south Lebanon.

The seasonal occupation provides refugees with some money to help them survive the cold temperatures during the winter.

In the southern Lebanese plains of Marjeyoun, Salwa al-Okaibi, who was displaced from Idlib, heads to the olive fields with her four children aged 8 to 15 years old, carrying medium-sized bags, some food and about 4 liters of water.
