Item from Nov 6, 1984, in China Daily: The construction of Beijing's biggest water gate - the Xiangyang Gate across the Chaobai River in the city's Shunyi area, has been completed.

With a storage capacity of 3 million cubic meters, the 23-arch gate is one of Beijing's major water supply projects.

Water projects continue to play an important role in supplying the precious resource to rapidly developing Beijing.
