China Daily | Updated: 2015-11-05 07:49

Item from Nov 5, 1982, in China Daily: The family planning policy has brought health and happiness to many families, such as this young mother and her baby in Jiangsu province.

Married couples who keep to the single-child family program account for more than 70 percent of the total married population in Liaoning, Shandong, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Jiangsu provinces and in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin municipalities, Qian Xinzhong, director of the State Family Planning Commission, told China Daily yesterday.

China will relax its family planning policy and allow all couples to have two children in the near future, according to a communique issued last week after the conclusion of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th Communist Party of China Central Committee.
