US dentist fired shot heard round the world

A United States dentist came into the crosshairs of international debate in July because of how he spent his summer vacation. He didn't go gambling in Las Vegas, surfing in Hawaii or camping in Yellowstone National Park.
He went to Zimbabwe and killed a lion.
Not just any lion, but "Cecil", a national icon.
