167 Chinese are accused of fraud

The Cambodian police have arrested 167 Chinese nationals accused of telephone scams in the southwestern Preah Sihanouk province, a senior police official said on Sunday. A number of telephones and laptop computers, which were used by the suspects to cajole money out of people in China, were seized, the police said. In a telephone fraud, suspects often use overseas servers to make scam calls to their victims in China, claiming to be court or police officials and warning that the victims' bank accounts had been breached so that they have to transfer the money to a separate safe account.
