FBI rules out bomb on leader's boat

By Agencies in Male | China Daily | Updated: 2015-11-02 08:08

The FBI has said it found no evidence that an explosion on board the Maldives president's boat was caused by a bomb, a report said, raising questions about his deputy's arrest over the incident.

Maldives police arrested seven people after an investigation into the boat explosion that led to the discovery of weapons hidden on the sea bed, officials said on Saturday.

The weapons, including two hand grenades, a rifle, a pistol, and more than 100 rounds of ammunition wrapped in carrier bags were found on the sea bed, at a depth of 45 meters, in the remote Baa Atoll, 130 kilometers northwest of the capital Male, officials said.
