Oil giant ordered to pay fishermen
A court in Tianjin has ordered US oil giant ConocoPhillips to pay 1.68 million yuan ($266,000) to 21 fishermen who claimed that their fishing interests and livelihood were severely damaged by the 2011 Bohai Bay oil spill. Friday's verdict comes after nearly four years of dispute between the fishermen and ConocoPhillips, which, along with State-owned oil giant China National Offshore Oil Corp, were held responsible for the contamination of more than 6,200 square kilometers of water in Bohai Bay after a large spill in the area's oil fields.
