Lead city-cluster growth, Shanghai urged

Shanghai has been urged to make a determined effort to lead the development of city clusters in the next stage of China's social and economic progress.

Several major city clusters will provide the main locations for the nation's future transformation, urban development experts said ahead of next week's top leadership meeting in Beijing to discuss the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).

A municipal think tank leader said in a newspaper article that Shanghai must be prepared to embrace the trend of more concentrated economic power among city clusters and to increase its urban competitiveness.
