61 wingsuit skydivers set a new record in California skies

By Associated Press in Los Angeles, California | China Daily | Updated: 2015-10-22 07:45

A group of 61 wingsuit skydivers flew into the record books after creating a diamond-shaped formation while soaring over California.

The troupe set the record for the largest such formation on Saturday at Skydive Perris, southeast of Los Angeles, Taya Weiss, the jump's lead organizer, said on Tuesday. It shattered the previous best set by 42 fliers in June.

Weiss said the record was verified by a panel of judges from Federation Aeronautique Internationale, the international group that keeps track of skydiving and other aviation-related records.
