The operation, in the Xijing Hospital, attached to the 4th Military Medical College of the People's Liberation Army in Xi'an, is the first liver transplant between people with a blood relationship in the mainland. Its success symbolizes China's advanced level in the field of organ transplants.

Major medical advances in the past decades mean thousands of lives are saved through organ transplants in China every year.
