By Agencies in Minsk, Belarus | China Daily | Updated: 2015-10-13 07:45

Belarus' re-elected President Alexander Lukashenko looked for relief from EU sanctions against his country on Monday after he thundered to victory in polls in which there were no major opposition protests.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Lukashenko for his re-election.

Xi said he attaches great importance to relations between China and Belarus, and he expects to make concerted efforts with Lukashenko to improve the lives of the Chinese and Belarusian peoples.
