This Day, That Year

Item from Oct 12, 1991, in China Daily: Beijing residents purchase flowers from vendors near Ditan Park in the city. As people become more well off, they have shown increasing interest in purchasing little luxuries such as these to brighten their lives.
With rapid economic development and rising standards of living in the country in the past few decades, previous "little luxuries" such as fresh-cut flowers are now common items in many Chinese homes.
Few people also buy the flowers from street vendors. Instead, many get their floral fixes from the numerous florists in residential communities and shopping malls.
