$1.57-million fund set up to assist 100 teachers from the countryside

Jack Ma, founder of China's e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, has launched a 10 million yuan ($1.57 million) fund for 100 rural teachers.

The program was rolled out last month and is aimed at improving education in the countryside.

Known as the Jack Ma Rural Teachers Plan, the fund will award 100,000 yuan to each teacher who has made an impact in underdeveloped areas.
