Tu Youyou, the first Chinese citizen to win a Nobel Prize in science, said winning the prize was "not that important", but the recognition of her work can boost further research into Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Tu said there were many health benefits of TCM still waiting to be discovered.

"To win the Nobel Prize is not that important for me, but this honor attests that our traditional Chinese medicine is an inspiring resource which requires further research," Tu said in an interview with Xinhua.
