Despite there being no direct flights between the British city of Manchester and the Chinese mainland, the inconvenience of transportion hasn't hindered close exchanges and cooperation between the University of Manchester and its partners in China.
Nancy Rothwell, president and vice-chancellor of the university, said staff members from the university travel to China very often and she visits China at least once a year, seeking further opportunities for cooperation in both teaching and research.
So far, at least 20 cooperative programs have been established during the past few years. "The number is continuously growing," Rothwell told China Daily during a trip to China in early September.
