President Xi Jinping's speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday morning clarified China's stance on key issues in the world, such as peace, stability, development and prosperity. It's a stance that many Chinese believe has been misunderstood or distorted by news media and politicians in the West.
Xi called for building a new type of international relationship based on win-win cooperation, mutual respect and equality. He called for multilateralism rather than unilateralism, dialogue instead of confrontation and partnership instead of alliance.
China is upset at the alliance that the US has been building in the Asia-Pacific region, an alliance seen by many Chinese as a legacy of the Cold War.
