Finding your way back to the bright field

It was 22 years ago, almost to the week, that I first met Lleucu Siencyn.
I had not met a Welsh person before or someone with so many vowels in their name. She was glamorous, wearing high heels and designer makeup, and ate exotic foods such as hummus and ciabatta.
She had traveled - across Europe and to South America - by the time our paths crossed at Oxford University. Her upbringing was nothing like mine but we became friends and, over the years, she introduced me to her culture and heritage.
